Born in Lompoc, CA, Carin Bernard is just an average left handed young lady who enjoys her culture which she defines as her brand. Growing up in Waterbury, CT, Carin dealt with mild racism and consistent bullying in her younger years. Struggling to make friends, she often kept to herself and developed a passion for “creating.” From writing stories to sketching anime characters, Carin developed a love for art before even attaining the ability to create pristine, likable pieces. With 15 years under her belt, she disciplines herself to learn and master different mediums. She is currently in the process of mastering Acrylic and water paintings where she will eventually venture to oil paintings. Her art is meant to glorify black culture while revealing to the world her eclectic imagination. Born in Brooklyn, New York, L.Joevon currently lives and produces in New York City as a writer with various artistic abilities. His creativity helped him endure many of the obstacles he faced by escaping the reality of his life. L was raised by a single misguided mother until the age of seven. Growing up in a broken home generated a lot of misguided confusion and anger. After going through eight foster homes, he realized he needed to find a way to cope with his pain. His outlet became art. With no family to trust. L found one within the New York City Crip Gang where he was praised for his loyalty and support. His commitment to the streets built his rep and landed him in incarceration at the ripe age of17. At the age of19, he created his first mixtape Ethiopian and sold over 2,000 copies.
L.Joevon performed in local underground spots thatlanded him a management deal. Unfortunately, L experienced the manipulation of power and was faced with a decision to make; either become a puppet for funding, or take his career into his own hands. L chose to defend himself, and was faced with three years of incarceration. During his time, he started using his creative mind to escape the reality he was facing. L received news from an ex-girlfriend that he had a son. Grief consumed him as L felt responsible for becoming an absentee father. He wrote Seeds in the Concrete along with multiple songs inspired by his time in solitary confinement. He found answers to problems through autonomy, and used that to create an ultimate new reality to live in. He studied business, philosophy, and the arts. Through this L found that the greatest and most vital tool was love. L.Joevon is currently being managed by Am’I ( Autonomy Manifested, Inc.) He is working hard to craft an innovative and creative project. Through Seeds in the Concrete, L.Joevon is hoping to inspire others to be the seed growing from the concrete. 2

Mr. Sekouba Bolomba is an Ivorian reggae musician. In the tradition of jamaican roots reggae from the 70s, Sekouba combines an eclectic mix of traditional West African rhythms known as Bolomba, using djembe drums and balafons. His potent lyrics, heavy ideas, and delicate voice are laced in his music in four different languages: English, French, Malinke and Bambara. He humbly has graced stages around the globe with generous performances, including Israel, Germany, Switzerland, Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, the United States of America and Canada.
After being enriched into the roots of the Bolomba style, the young Sekouba came alive with the West African sounds of the Mandinka. Sekouba’s desire to sing came naturally but it was never a reality without the musical influence of his brother, Ismael Isaac. Sekouba’s other musical influences include, Lucky Dube, Alpha Blondy, and Bob Marley.
Sekouba’s uplifting and heartening lyrics enliven audiences with spiritual liberation and African consciousness. His debut album “I’m So Glad” was self-produced in New York City and arranged by Oscar Ankou. Sekouba’s sophomore album in 2010 “Sejo” was co-produced by Sidney Mills, Grammy award-winning reggae artist and keyboard player for the legendary reggae band Steel Pulse. The album includes outstanding liberal tracks like “Mandela” featuring Bob Marley’s guitarist Junior Marvin from The Wailers. “Mandela” is a sharp and arousing tribute to former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela, and has been well-received by international fans.
Sekouba and his band Bolumba Stylee have decorated the nation with groovy, soulful performances at venues and festivals such as Festival Nuits d’Afrique in Montreal, Canada; Abi Festival in Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Fête de la Musique in Mali; SummerStage in New York City, alongside Israeli artist Idan Raichel; NJPAC SummerStage; New Haven Music Festival; Brooklyn’s International African Arts Festival; S.O.B.’s; Shrine World Music Venue; and many more. Sekouba’s music is inspired by a conglomerate of modern day music, and the ancestral dialogue passed down to him as a descendant of a long line of griots. In one show, Sekouba’s listeners share in a universal experience.
Sekouba is the youngest brother of Isaac Ismael, the lead singer in Ivory Coast’s best known musical group. He currently lives in New York City and is the Senior Artistic Director for the Go Africa Network 2016 (NYC).
Sekouba’s bio is in the May 2016 edition of L3 Magazine, North America.s #1 Urban-Caribbean online publication.

Before joining the Mayor’s Office, Mr. Konneh worked for the New York County District Attorney’s Office as the Senior Specialized Coordinator for over six years. Growing up on a market street in Guyana, Raymond would go to the market everyday with his mother to shop for the family. Raymond fell in love with the foods in the market and enormous diversity of ingredients being offered. Today, Chef Raymond continues to find inspiration in the markets of New York City and the many seasonal culinary opportunities they represent which led him to complete his Culinary Degree at the New York Restaurant School. Having amassed invaluable experience in some of the top kitchens, as well as through his extensive travel and dedication to furthering his education. Chef Mohan spent his first four years in the industry as an apprentice under renowned chefs, Wayne Nish at March Restaurant; Jean-Georges Vongerichten at Vong; David Burke at Park Avenue Café and Christian Delouvrier at Les Celebrities. In 1996, he was hired as Chef de Cuisine at Patria restaurant in New York City, under Chef Douglas Rodriguez. Chef Mohan and Chef Rodriguez have a shared passion and philosophy for Latin cuisine and in addition to Patria, they have worked together at Aquarella Puerto Rico; Pipa, a Spanish tapas bar in New York, and Chicama, a Peruvian ceviche bar in New York. Chef Mohan also directed the opening of Alma de Cuba alongside Chef Rodriguez and the Starr Group in Philadelphia before opening Plantain, his own Latin-Caribbean restaurant in New York, which was open for three years.
With more than a decade of experience in hospitality, entertainment and tourism, Leticia conceived of and launched LoLo’s Seafood Shack, the first restaurant concept of her newly formed Island Time Hospitality Group. Leticia brings a unique blend of Ivy League acumen and entrepreneurial driven creativity to the hospitality industry, as a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the Culinary Entrepreneurship program of the French Culinary Institute.

A PLACE TO EAT
Charles was born and raised in Botswana, Africa. He is a mechanical electrician and chef by profession. Growing up in Africa, he had a passion for food; he simply loved cooking. After graduating high school, he was able to save up a few pennies – just enough to open a breakfast food stall – which helped him fund his technical college and culinary courses. However, due to the dire economic conditions in Botswana, Charles eventually had to close the stall down permanently. Through hard work and perseverance, however, he managed to emigrate to America.
Arriving in the US, he worked in restaurants and pursued his cooking dream, which offered a great learning curve, along with increased responsibility. He took culinary classes in New York and eventually learned of about the richness and flavor of African food.
Moved by the richness and diversity of African cuisine Charles embarked on a journey together, and created JAA DIJO DOM with the idea of bringing the gift of his cuisine to a wide audience: “Our goal is to create a place where all nations can taste the cuisines from all over Africa, and while doing this, we consider each customer’s diet preferences and restrictions. We aim to leave you satisfied and begging for more!”

Organization
The Fire Department is comprised of multiple bureaus, units and commands that work daily to achieve the Department’s lifesaving mission.
The origins of the Fire Department of New York City date back to 1648, but it wasn’t until 1865 that the modern-day FDNY first was established with the creation of the Metropolitan Fire Department (M.F.D.). The first professional unit, Engine Company Number 1, went into service on July 31,1865, at four Centre Street in Manhattan. The first ladder trucks were pulled by two horses and carried wooden portable ladders in sizes up to 73 feet. The first reference to the nomenclature F-D-N-Y was made in 1870 after the Department became a municipally controlled organization. The reorganized Department changed leadership, titles of rank and even its name. All usage of M.F.D. was removed and the lettering on all apparatus was changed to the now-familiar F.D.N.Y.
Around the same time, origins of the Department’s Emergency Medical Service began to take shape with horse-drawn ambulances dispatched by telegraph from Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan.
On January 1, 1898, the Greater City of New York was formed with the FDNY now overseeing all fire services in the newly formed boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. A new charter accompanied the reorganization of the City. The Board of Fire Commissioners, in place since 1865, was replaced by a single Commissioner.

NYC Nurse-Family Partnership (NYC NFP) is a program for new mothers that provides support, guidance and information to help you become the best mom you can be. As a first-time mother, you will be connected to your own personal nurse who will be there with you to support you through your pregnancy and in your new role as a mother. Your nurse will answer your questions, listen to your concerns and offer useful information so you can have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.
NYC NFP serves pregnant women and girls and is available at no cost to you and regardless of your immigration status or that of anyone in your family. Who can sign up for the program?
Women or teens in New York City who are pregnant with a first baby and meet low-income requirements can participate.
You can participate whatever your age or immigration status.
You can participate as early in your pregnancy as you like but no later than your 28th week.
