about The New York City Commission on Human Rights

The New York City Human Rights Law is one of the most comprehensive civil rights laws in the nation.
The Law prohibits discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations based on race, color, religion/creed, age, national origin, alienage or citizenship status, gender (including sexual harassment), gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, marital status, and partnership status. Interns, whether paid or not, are considered employees under the Law.
In addition, the Law affords protection against discrimination in employment based on unemployment status, arrest or conviction record, credit history, caregiver status, and status as a victim of domestic violence, stalking, and sex offenses.
The Law affords additional protections in housing based on lawful occupation, family status, any lawful source of income, and status as a victim of domestic violence, stalking, and sex offenses.
The City Human Rights Law also prohibits retaliation, discriminatory harassment, and bias-based profiling by law enforcement.
The New York City Commission on Human Rights is charged with the enforcement of the Human Rights Law, Title 8 of the Administrative Code of the City of New York, and with educating the public and encouraging positive community relations. The Commission is divided into two major bureaus — Law Enforcement and Community Relations:

  • The Community Relations Bureau provides public education about the Human Rights Law and helps cultivate understanding and respect among the City’s many diverse communities through its borough-based Community Service Centers and numerous educational and outreach programs.  Learn more about the Community Relations Bureau

About Child Development Support Corporation (CDSC)

CDSC is a community-based, not-for-profit organization incorporated in 1975.  CDSC began as a self-help group headed by parents to provide child care for families in the Fort Greene and Bedford-Stuyvesant sections of Brooklyn, New York.  From our modest beginnings of providing the single service of on-site childcare, we have evolved into a multi-service organization that provides a wide range of services to children, youth, and families.

We help families and individuals to become self-sufficient and self-reliant.  We are motivated by the belief that vibrant, healthy communities start with strong, secure families. Our unique ability to recognize and adapt to changing community circumstances and needs enables us to continually provide proactive, responsive, relevant, and quality programs and services.

At the Go Africa Harlem Street Festival 2017, we will bring a sample of what we do best – resources and information to help parents access quality subsidized and nonsubsidized child care services throughout New York City including summer or afterschool programs. Additionally, we will provide information to help guide individuals interested in starting a homebased early childhood program through the entire process.

We will offer a variety of promotional items and activities for children and adults. Also, our staff will be able to serve participants who Spanish, French or Haitian Creole.

Our program is fully funded by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
